Backyard Chicken Licensing

Raising Chickens in Hutchinson

The care and keeping of chickens requires time and commitment.  Before you begin, know the City’s requirements listed in the Chicken Ordinance.

Be aware of the rules before securing your permit and purchasing your coop or chickens.

  • Maximum of 6 chickens

  • Chickens must be confined
  • No slaughtering/processing on the property

The ordinance requires a public educational course and 10-question quiz through the University of Minnesota Extension, which is posted below.

Note:
Fast-forward or changing the Playback speed to anything other than “Normal” will not allow you to access the quiz.
