CreekSide Organic Material Processing Facility Information
CreekSide Compost Facility has served the Hutchinson community and the surrounding area for many years. In an effort to improve service and further minimize its waste stream to the landfill, the compost facility was expanded in 2001. Residents can drop off yard waste, brush, logs and clean wood at the CreekSide Compost Facility free of charge. The compost facility is also the final destination for residential organic material that is placed in the 90-gallon curbside organic carts. This material is composted into a nutrient-rich fertilizer and used as a soil amendment for roadside construction projects, landscaping and gardens.
“We are really thankful for this valuable service!” – Resident
Between 30-40% of all waste going to the landfill is made of organic material, which can instead be composted and made into a valuable soil amendment. Composting your food and yard waste reduces the production of methane gas in landfills, and supports at least four times more jobs than a landfill on a per-ton basis. Compost improves the soil’s ability to retain moisture and nutrients, and promotes plant growth while reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
“I love being able to reduce what goes into a landfill.” – Resident
