Food Scraps and Yard Waste (Organics) Collection Program

Hutchinson is lucky! We are one of the few cities in the country that generates revenue for the City from our collected organic waste. And we’ve been doing this for over 20 years!
Organic waste is converted into compost at Hutchinson’s CreekSide Soils facility on Adams Street. The compost is bagged and sold to buyers in and out of state. Profits from these sales, often over $100,000/year, supports City services.
What to Put in the Green Lid Organics Cart
Residents have three waste carts: garbage, recycling, and organics. The green lid cart is for organics. This cart is picked up each week.
