2023 Flood Planning

March – June is the primary flooding season in Hutchinson.  1965 was the biggest flood, which caused damage to a number of homes and businesses.  After the 1997 flood, most vulnerable properties were purchased and the buildings were taken down.

Most of the time, floods are caused by heavy rain and/or rapid snowmelt.  Initial forecasts indicate an elevated chance of flooding in 2023.
